Cyber attacks are just a click away and pose a threat to all sized businesses. According to IBM, about 4,000 small and mid-sized businesses are hit by cyber attacks every day, and sixty percent of affected businesses shut down within 6 months of being attacked because of the high cost to repair the damage.
Although the threat is always lurking, cyber attacks can be prevented through education and awareness. Taking proactive steps before an attack occurs and knowing what to do if you are targeted are important steps to protect your business and client data.
There are several ways to better protect your network and devices, but here are few to get you started:
1. Have a plan in place in case a breach occurs.
2. Make sure your security software is up to date on all company devices.
3. Educate your employees on what suspicious emails, links, and websites look like, how to avoid them and what to do if they encounter one. Also inform them on how to create and maintain strong passwords.
4. Consider cyber insurance. The cost of coverage is small in comparison to the cost of restoring your system after an attack.
